How to practice

Stand on one foot and place the other foot high on the standing thigh, only if your knee is comfortable. Bend the standing knee and slowly lower into a squat, bringing your fingertips to the floor for balance. Rise onto the ball of the standing foot, find a steady gaze, and breathe calmly. Come out slowly.

Benefits

Challenges ankle control, leg strength, and concentration in a low balance on the forefoot.

Who should avoid or modify

  • Use a wall or blocks and descend only with control. Avoid with knee, ankle, or toe pain; do not force a half-lotus leg position or balance on an unstable foot.
