Inversion

How to practice

Lie on your back and lift your hips and legs over your shoulders. Support your back with your hands, keeping the weight across your shoulders rather than your neck. Lower one leg slowly while the other reaches upward. Keep your neck still and breathe evenly.

Benefits

Trains controlled support through the shoulders and upper arms, with the trunk stabilizing the raised body. Moving one leg independently adds control of the pelvis and trunk.

Who should avoid or modify

  • Learn with a qualified teacher and never turn the head while lifted. Avoid with neck or shoulder injury, glaucoma, or uncontrolled high blood pressure; do not start this inversion during pregnancy. Lower the moving leg only while the shoulder base stays stable and the neck remains comfortable.
